Long answer
The root of both of theme is the same. It's been designed one. However, core question2answer package doesn't want to include additional theme options we have released parallel version of the theme FlatBox with some of theme options.
After first release of both theme, FlatBox has been independently developed and will go on by Q2A Market while SnowFlat became a community project.
Since FlatBox development is independent, we can manage or add new features without any restrictions.
In few months we are going to start updating FlatBox with nee features.
